The Hazara Shamama Association of Victoria proudly hosted its annual Hazara Culture Day 2026 celebrations in Melbourne, bringing together approximately 500 attendees from across the community for an evening dedicated to culture, heritage, and unity.

The event was attended by distinguished guests including Julian Hill, Federal Member for Bruce; Belinda Wilson, State Member for Narre Warren North; and Stefan Koomen, who joined community members in celebrating the rich cultural traditions of the Hazara people.

The evening was expertly hosted by masters of ceremonies Abul Fazal Zaki and Raihana Rashid, whose professionalism, warmth, and engaging presence helped create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere throughout the program.

The event featured speeches from Dr Zakir Hussain, Ph.D., President of the Hazara Shamama Association of Victoria, alongside Sekander Ali and Dr Farkhondeh Akbari. The program also included a poetry recitation by Farhad Zahedi, an interactive community activity led by Nazir Yousafi, and live performances by renowned Hazara musicians Khair Ali Shahristani and Iftikhar Sarvari.

One of the highlights of the evening was a vibrant Hazaragi fashion show featuring boys and girls showcasing traditional Hazara attire, reflecting the beauty and diversity of Hazara culture. The event also featured “Human Thesis – Hazara Stories,” a storytelling initiative from Ondru that provided attendees with an opportunity to hear personal stories and experiences from members of the Hazara community, fostering greater understanding, connection, and appreciation of the Hazara experience.

As a gesture of hospitality and cultural appreciation, honoured guests were presented with traditional Hazaragi Khamak Dozi scarves and veils, showcasing the intricate embroidery and craftsmanship that form an important part of Hazara cultural heritage.

Hazara Culture Day was made possible through the generous support of more than 14 sponsors, whose contributions helped deliver a successful and memorable event for the community.
